Steps in Grace Principle:

TAKING INVENTORY

We take searching and courageous inventories of our lives: identifying our needs, weaknesses, characteristics, and gifts. We share these insights with at least one other trusted person.

INSIGHT.

CONFESSION.

HONESTY.

Asking God for help

Psalm 51:10 - Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

Proverbs 9:10 - The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.

Psalm 139:23  - Search me, God, and know my heart; Put me to the test and know my anxious thoughts.

Lamentations 3:40 - let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the LORD.

James 1:5 - If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

Psalm 1:1-3  - Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers.

Inventory of sins

1 Thessalonians 5:22  - hold aloof from every form of wickedness.

Romans 7:18 - I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.

James 5:16a -  Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed.

Romans 1:28-32 - People did not think it was important to have a true knowledge of God. So God left them and allowed them to have their own worthless thinking. And so they do what they should not do. They are filled with every kind of sin, evil, greed, and hatred. They are full of jealousy, murder, fighting, lying, and thinking the worst things about each other. They gossip and say evil things about each other. They hate God. They are rude, proud, and brag about themselves. They invent ways of doing evil. They don’t obey their parents, they are foolish, they don’t keep their promises, and they show no kindness or mercy to others. They know God’s law says that anyone who lives like that should die. But they not only continue to do these things themselves, but they also encourage others who do them.

Inventory of good characteristics:

1 Thessalonians 5:21 - but prove all things, hold fast the right

2 Peter 1:5-9 - For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.

1 John 4:1a - Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God

1 Peter 4:7b - be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers.

Ephesians 4:26a -   When angry, do not sin; do not ever let your wrath (your exasperation, your fury or indignation) last until the sun goes down.

SNAP HABIT! If it helps you to stay on track, you can place coloured rubber bands (1 for each medicine or supplement) on your left wrist and transfer to your right wrist after you’ve taken it. (NOTE: This works for any habit you want to start or stop. If it’s a habit you want to break, snap the band to distract yourself from the habit/negative thought.)

SPIRITUAL GIFTS REFLECTION (supplement)

You may reflect and pray on this list of gifts or take a spiritual gift survey through your church to consider what spiritual gift or gifts you have. It may be beneficial to ask a close Christian friend or leader for their impression of which gifts you may have too.

DEFINITION A Spiritual gift is NOT a talent or natural aptitude, a call, an office, a ministry or a place of service. IT IS “a special supernatural ability, enablement or capacity to do the work of God in edifying the body of Christ.” It is from God the Holy Spirit. Its essence is an ability to do something for God. Its purpose is to build up the body of Christ.
